PVC-U Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC-U) is the most widely used of all pipe installation plastics. It is rigid, multipurpose, and is suitable for use both above or below ground.
It has excellent chemical resistance which combined with smoothness of bore, offers good flow characteristics. PVC-U is suitable for use at temperatures from 0ºC to 60ºC at a wide range of operating pressures ( depending upon the system chosen) . It is lightweight and easy to install with joints being made using a solvent cement but without requirement for specialist tools
PVC-C Cholorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC-C) is a modified PVC with additional high temperature strength. It has been developed to handle hot, corrosive liquids at working temperatures up to 100ºC, whilst also offering the ease of installation of cold solvent welded jointing.
With a similar working temperature range to polypropylene, PVC-C has greater rigidity and lower thermal expansion, making it particularly suitable for above ground process pipework.
ABS Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) is a rigid pressure piping system renowned for its high impact strength and durability.
It is suitable for use over a wide temperature range from -40ºC to 80ºC and at pressures of up to 15 bar. ABS pipe systems are lightweight, rigid, and easy to install with joints being made using a solvent cement but without requirement for specialist tools
POLYPROPYLENE Polypropylene (PP) piping systems are widely used in industrial processing. Light weight but with high impact strength and reliable heat fusion welding, PP also offers good abrasion resistance and is a good thermal and electrical insulator.
PP is suitable for working use at temperatures up to 90ºC.
PP systems are assembled using heat fusion welding, using socket ended fittings, butt fusion of pipes and/or fittings end to end, and electrofusion fittings.
POLYETHELYENE Polyethylene is highly resistant to breakage (due to impact) at temperatures above 5ºC, and remains very tough at temperatures as low as -40ºC. It is also exceptionally resistant to abrasion.
Polyethylene is relatively light weight, and its flexibility makes it particularly suitable for temporary pipelines.
It has very good chemical resistance, and will withstand most acids and caustic substances but will not resist strong oxidising acids.
Polyethylene is joined by heat, and both socket fusion, butt fusion welding and electrofusion
PVDF Polyvinlidene Fluoride (PVDF) is a unique thermoplastic with properties which allow it to be used for very aggressive or highly specialised applications.
PVDF has excellent chemical and physical properties, even at low temperatures, and has considerable resistance to abrasion. It is resistant to most of the inorganic acids and bases and can be used for high purity applications.
Safe working temperatures range from -40ºC to +120ºC
DOUBLE CONTAINMENT PIPING Double containment piping systems are ideal for ensuring safety when transporting corrosive, toxic, or otherwise hazardous media.
When a leak occurs in a normal, single-walled pipe system, the contents of the pipe escape into the surroundings; however, the installation of double containment piping can avoid this issue. Should there be a leak from the primary pipeline in a double containment system, the fluid is safely contained by the secondary pipe. A leak detection system is generally also installed to alert operators when a leak has occurred buying operators time to safely shut off supply and preventing expensive reparation.
