Deionisation & Demineralisation

We offer a range of standard co-current and counter current, twin bed demineralisers suitable for a wide spectrum of industrial manufacturing industries including:

Demineralisation (DI) and Demineralized Water

Our range of smaller sized demineralisation units use proven multiport valve technology for control of service and regeneration functions, with larger plant employing individual diaphragm valves, mounted within pipework manifolds, for these processes.

Bespoke demineralizer systems for more specialist applications, such as water recovery within the metal finishing industry, are also available. These systems employ a variety of ion exchange resins to best suit the operating conditions and have additional design features such as the facility for in situ cleaning of resins.

AllWater Treatment plant is supplied with conductivity or resistance meters for indication of treated water quality and control of regeneration initiation; larger water treatment plants being supplied with programmable logic controllers (PLC’s) for overall plant control, and human machine interface (HMI) for indication of plant running condition and operator input.

Regenerant handling systems including semi-bulk and bulk holding tanks are available, although smaller water treatment plants are generally designed, for ease of use, to regenerate directly from carboys or other suitable containers.

A wide variety of fume scrubbing systems, including resin type scrubbers with colour change resin for operation with day tanks or other small containers are also available.

Electro-Deionisation

Electrodeionization (EDI) is a water treatment technology used for producing ultra-pure water. The process of electro deionization of water utilises electricity, ion exchange resins and membranes. The two separation technologies; membranes and ion exchange, are combined into one sealed, self-contained unit.

The primary use of electrodeionization (EDI) has focused on Reverse Osmosis (RO) permeate polishing. RO EDI technology is widely used in industry as a final polisher, replacing traditional ion exchange units, which require chemical regeneration using base and acid reagents. The lack of chemical usage in electrodeionization makes this an attractive technology for use in a wide range of industries including pharmaceutical and power generation.

Electrodeionization (EDI) works by splitting the water into two streams within the EDI cell; these being known as dilute and concentrate. The electrical current generated in the EDI cell causes ions present in the dilute stream to migrate across a “bridge” of ion exchange resin beads, until they pass through a semi-permeable membrane into the concentrate compartment. The concentrate stream typically represents around 10% of the EDI feedwater and is rejected, routinely back to front end collection before once again passing through the Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant. The dilute quality is commonly > 12 megohm.

The electrical current generated within the electrodeionization (EDI) cell creates H+ and OH- ions, which bring about continuous regeneration of the ion exchange resin within the dilute compartment. The continuous nature of this electrodeionization process leads to the further referencing of this technology as Continuous Electrodeionization (CEDI). This is a very effective process for thus, continuous operation can be achieved without the need for downtime to accommodate regeneration.

Exchange Cylinders

Exchange CylindersAllWater Technologies Ltd is pleased to offer a wide range of exchangeable media cylinders suitable for providing quality treated water without the need for capital investment or the provision of on-site chemicals.

Employing a range of media, an immediate solution can be achieved in:

  • Reducing & controlling Total Organic Content (TOC)
  • Removing or reducing Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
  • Providing a pre-treatment solution to systems such as Reverse Osmosis or Deionisation (that might otherwise be irrevocably damaged by organic fouling or chlorine attack).
  • Removing other potentially harmful compounds

The range includes:

  • AWT PW Range of Standard Mixed Bed Deionisation – suitable for industrial applications such as metal finishing, window cleaning, general laboratory use where low grade deionised water is required.
  • AWT SPW Range of Nuclear Grade Mixed Bed Deionisation – suitable for industrial applications such as pharmaceutical and micro-electronics where a higher grade deionised water is required. Additional processing of the resin ensures minimum chloride leakage than the Standard Mixed Bed option and thus a higher quality water for those that require it.
  • AWT UPW Range of Ultrapure Mixed Bed Deionisation – suitable for ultrapure water systems, encapsulated laboratory activity and closed loop installations where purity is critical. Additional processing of the resin ensures minimum chloride leakage and significantly lower TOC levels than the Nuclear Mixed Bed option and thus a ultrapure quality water for those that require it.
  • AWT ACC Range of Acid Rinsed Coconut Based Carbon Filtration – suitable for the effective removal of chlorine, chloramines and a variety dissolved organic contaminants from town’s mains. This specification of cylinder is commonly used as a pre-treatment for Reverse OsmosisElectro-DeionisationUltrafiltration and Demineralisation but can also be used as a stand-alone product.
